Tandoori Oven is reborn at Chakra

Long a town favorite, Tandoori Oven was one of the best places to chill out with some great, inexpensive chow. The Los Gatos location was so popular that the owners decided to open even more locations (San Jose Downtown, Campbell, Palo Alto and even Daly City).

Regulars were stunned to see that the Tandoori Oven on North Santa Cruz Ave was moving – two doors down and changing its name. Thankfully, Chakra Indian Food offers the same excellent, reasonably priced menu as Tandoori Oven. The same youthful, great staff made the change, too. Although they didn’t bring back the dearly departed boti (lamb) dishes, the rest of the excellent choices remain the same. Curries, naan bread and the like are on the. Their chicken and paneer wraps with a choice of potato or cucumber salad are sure to please. Also, their tamarind chutney goes well on everything so be sure to ask for some on the side. Don’t forget to grab a bottomless chai or a mango lassi to quench your thirst (the chai’s extra caffeinated if that’s your thing). If the spirit of Tandoori lives on in Chakra, you can be sure that what you order is delicious and fresh. Here’s hoping that Chakra continues to be an all-around reliable place to eat in Downtown Los Gatos.
